Talent Coaching - Treasure Gardens
Helping Samantha find her confidence on camera.
When I arrived to record Samantha Taylor telling the story of Treasure Gardens, she was a nervous wreck. She had already convinced herself she was going to be terrible on camera. That's when I let her in on a little secret: almost everyone feels that way. Her job wasn’t to deliver a flawless performance. It was to trust me long enough for us to find the good takes together.
I sat her in a secluded barn with soft, flattering light and started asking about the part of the business she genuinely loved—growing and arranging flowers. Her state changed almost immediately. The nerves gave way to joy, and she stopped worrying about the camera and started opening up as she was telling her story.
That is what on-camera coaching means to me. It isn’t manufacturing a personality or forcing someone to perform. It is creating trust, finding the subject that brings the real person forward and giving that person enough room to become comfortable. With patient direction and thoughtful editing, we turned Samantha’s uneasy beginning into a warm, credible introduction to her business.
Years later, I see Samantha hosting Facebook Lives and touring viewers through her new greenhouse like Martha Stewart. I smile every time. Her confidence is hers—but I like to think I helped her break the ice.
